A look at the fifth wave of the Coronavirus in Hong Kong

In the UK, where I live, restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic have eased. People do not have to socially isolate or wear masks any longer, with the exception of being in a healthcare facility. Because the restrictions have eased in the UK and other places, a person can be lulled into the false belief that the pandemic is over.

The pandemic certainly is not over in Hong Kong, a small island nation that is experiencing the fifth surge of this terrible disease. I have researched the reasons for a fifth wave in the media, and have found that the coronavirus has spiralled out of control in Hong Kong because people, especially the elderly, have been reluctant to receive the jabs that would have eased the symptoms if they did in fact come down with this ailment. In addition, because Hong Kong is a small nation where people tend to live in close proximity to each other, if one person acquires the viral infection then it can be pretty much assured that the entire family will come down with it too.

In addition, if a person happens to catch COV19 (with Omicron being the most contagious so far), they cannot receive the vaccination right away. After a person has a positive test or symptoms of the disease, he must wait 28 days before receiving the jab, which has the effect of further prolonging the existence of the disease.
