In this post I intend to show how I used Excel to obtain the residuals from that dataset.
In order to use the dataset, I copied and pasted the Leinhardt csv onto a blank page of a workbook that I had opened:-
I made a copy of the page with the csv file because it will come in useful should any mishaps occur.
I then used the Text to Columns feature in the Data tab of the ribbon, to convert the csv file to columns for every instance where a value was delimited by a comma:-
The resulting dataset can be seen below:-
In the Insert tab of the ribbon, I plotted a scatter plot of the income versus infant. It can be seen from the visualisation below…
