How to get your camera to work on a Windows 10 computer / laptop

It is unfortunate in many ways that I am on my own because if I encounter a problem I don’t have anyone to help me, so I have to figure the problem out on my own. I have lost a lot of sleep trying to fix a computer or programming problem, with the only help I could get was searching the internet and asking the right questions to receive the best answer.

On a side note I would like to point out that my propensity for not giving up comes in part from my stint in the military some four decades ago. I was a wideband maintenance equipment technician and I was employed 24 hours a day. Therefore, if the equipment broke I was required to stay and work until the telecommunications problem was solved.

Today I wanted to use the camera on my Windows 10 computer because I needed to take a professional photograph of myself. Imagine my chagrin when I turned the camera on my laptop on and it didn’t work!

I don’t use my camera a lot, preferring to use the screen recorder, so I was quite perplexed about how to solve this problem, so set about the task of researching the internet to determine exactly what I should do to correct this conundrum:-
