In my past blog posts I have discussed how to use VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP in Excel, which are older formulas. In this blog post I am going to discuss how to the new formula, XLOOKUP.
XLOOKUP is a highly powerful and versatile function in Excel that provides a more flexible way to look up values in a table or range. This function has been designed to replace the older functions, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP, and offers several advantages over them.
One advantage that I have noted is that VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP only allow the user to access one cell of data, but XLOOKUP allows the user to access a series of cells.
I have created a small range of values that list an id number, the name of the corresponding person, and the team he is on, as seen below:-
The user only needs to look up an id number and XLOOKUP will return the name and team of the corresponding individual, being a significant improvement over VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP.
In cell E14 the user only needs to type in the id number that he would like to access.
