I work for a healthcare facility and must use Excel to prepare statistical figures and charts for the waste that is removed from the facility. You would be amazed just how complex waste management can be because all waste has to be organised into different categories.

Just a few of the categories that waste falls into are:-

  1. Offensive healthcare waste
  2. Waste that needs to be incinerated
  3. Waste that needs to be treated
  4. Commercial waste
  5. Confidential waste
  6. Pharmaceutical waste
  7. Sharpes
  8. Card and paper

Each category of waste is put into a different type of bin, and all bins need to be accounted for.

Every month I am required to print off the copious invoices generated for each location that waste is disposed of and compare them to the spreadsheet invoice that is also generated, noting any queries.

In addition, I have to keep track of the cost and weight of the waste that is disposed of each month, specifically focusing on the three major categories of:-

  1. Offensive healthcare waste
  2. Waste that needs to be…
