Interview Question: What are the four types of probability sampling?
Probability sampling is a technique that involves choosing a population for systematic study based on probability theory. Probability sampling is best used when conducting quantitative research, which focuses on gathering and analysing numerical datasets.
Advantages of probability sampling include:-
- Probability sampling reduces the chances of sampling errors and systematic bias affecting the research population.
- The sample population has a close resemblance to the research population.
- Probability sampling produces highly reliable data.
- It is a cost effective and time saving way to method of data collection.
- Probability sampling does not require any special skills and is easy to implement.
Disadvantages of probability sampling include:-
- Population sampling can be time consuming when dealing with a large population.
- Despite randomisation, similar research variables can be chosen that will affect data quality.
There are four types of probability sampling that can be used in systematic investigations, namely:-
- Random sampling,
- Systematic sampling,
