In this blog post I intend to discuss the ANOVA, which is similar to the t-test (and z-test). The difference between the t-test (and z-test) and ANOVA is the fact that the t-test (or z-test) will test the difference in means of two samples, where the ANOVA will test the difference in means between three or more samples.

The Analysis of Variance, or ANOVA, is a statistical technique that is used to determine whether or not there is a significant difference between the means of three or more independent groups. ANOVA was developed by the statistician Ronald Fisher. ANOVA is based on the law of total variance, where the observed variance in a particular variable is partitioned into components attributable to different sources of variation. In its simplest form, ANOVA provides a statistical test of whether two or more population means are equal, and therefore generalises the t-test beyond two means. In other words, the…
