Machine learning, or predictive analytics, is a field of inquiry devoted to understanding and building methods to learn. Machine learning is seen as a part of artificial intelligence, which is an area of computer science that emphasises the creation of intelligent machines that work and react in the same or similar manner as humans. Machine learning is a sub-branch of artificial intelligence that gives the machine the ability to learn automatically and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed to do so.
Machine learning algorithms build a model based on sample data, known as training data, in order to make predictions or decisions without being specifically programmed to do so. Machine learning algorithms are used in a wide variety of applications, to include medicine, email filtering, speech recognition, agriculture, and computer vision, where it is difficult or unfeasible to develop conventional algorithms to perform the necessary tasks.
