Make a training report in Excel

Excel is a fantastic data analysis tool that gains more advanced features with every version. I have used Excel for the past three decades and I have noted that it has become a very sophisticated data analysis tool. While many administrators do not have access to programming languages like Python in their work, I would venture to say that the vast majority of them have Excel, which is the industry standard in working with spreadsheets.

Every week I am required to use Excel to prepare a training report and submit it to management. I thought that since this is a real world document that I am required to make, I would show people how I do it, using conditional formatting and formulas to create it. This report has been anonymised to ensure safety of any individuals involved.

The spreadsheet, after I have used conditional formatting and formulas appears in the screenshot below:-

When preparing the report, the first thing that I have done is to block off the cells C2 to M18 and make four rules to cover:-

  1. Attained in green
  2. Not attained in red
  3. Not required in grey
