My personal Sweet Bobby catfishing story

Since I no longer have access to Netflix, I have to wait until popular shows on the streaming platform are reviewed on YouTube, my video website of choice. This morning I watched several YouTube videos commenting on the documentary, Sweet Bobby, which detailed a nine year catfishing expedition perpetrated by the victim’s own cousin.

One thing that the catfishing victim said was that the perpetrator had engaged in a period of coercion and control while the scam was taking place. The whole theme of coercion and control is to make the victim look crazy and the perpetrator look sane. The catfishing victim said that when she went to the police to report what had been done to her, she was not believed and was actually victim shamed.

I personally can relate to victim shaming because it has been done to me. I am a single person, born in America, living in the UK. Because I am all on my own with no family for support, it goes without saying that I am a prime candidate to be scammed.

I have previously written about my fraudulent friendship with a Walter Mitty type character that has recently ended. Walter, being a career fraudster, has blocked me on Facebook and has not repaid my boyfriend the not insignificant amount of money that was lent to him.
