Scientific paper review: Data Science in a Pandemic

Many of us would like to forget the COVID19 pandemic, which began in 2019 and caused a global lockdown. There were several papers written, datasets analysed, and even predictions made. There is much controversy about the efficacy of vaccines, but after several companies rolled out the vaccine, which didn’t stop people from acquiring or spreading the virus, I might add, the lockdowns were finally lifted and mankind was able to try to rebuild the world around him.

One scientific paper that was written, entitled “Data Science in a Pandemic”, written by Dennis F X Mathaisel, takes a look at the efforts that data scientists undertook to resolve the particulars of the pandemic from a scientific point of view. Because I have written several blog posts about how the pandemic has affected individual countries, I took and interest in this paper and decided to review it:-

Data science was instrumental in navigating the COVID19 pandemic because it contributed to data visualisations, data dashboards, and predictive and prescriptive analytics.
