Use Excel to create a forward planner

Several days ago I was asked to create a forward planner in Excel that was based on a date for each person in a table. The client told me what he wanted and I endeavoured to create the planner using pre existing functions available in Excel.

There are many ways that a forward planner can be created, but the crucial pieces of information that it must contain are the names of the persons and the date assigned to each person. The screenshot below is a forward planner that I created, using fictitious names and dates of course, that can be used as a guide:-

The pieces of information that the forward planner begins with is the data in columns A and C. Column a is the name of the person and column C is the date assigned to that person.

It is important to convert each date be converted to a month and year, and this is accomplished by putting the following formula in cell D2 and copy and pasting it to each cell in the column:-

=TEXT(C2,”mm-yyyy”)
