Use Excel to make a simple interactive dashboard on an adult census dataset

In this post I intend to discuss how I have created an interactive dashboard on the dataset.

The first thing that needs to be done is to create a copy of the dataset on another sheet so if any mistakes are made then you will still have the original data available.

Next convert the data to a table by clicking on the Table icon on the Insert tab of the ribbon:-

I think it is a good idea to mark off the beginning and ending cells of the table because if the whole columns are inserted a lot of bank values can show up on any pivot tables and charts created:-

The resultant table should resemble the screenshot below:-

Once the table has been created, pivot tables need to be made for all of the information that you would like to appear on the dashboard. I put six charts on my dashboard, so that is how many pivot tables I…
