The last time that I studied mathematics was over four decades ago whilst a student at the University of Maryland European division. I studied algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus before deciding to study computers. I was the video, ‘Introduction to Mathematical Thinking Complete Course, and decided to watch the eleven hour video in the hope of improving my mathematical and computer skills.
The aim of the course is to teach the student to think the way a mathematician thinks, which is completely different when an individual attends university. The student has to learn how to think about a program in a certain way, which is different to the way he would think about the problem whilst attending high school. Mathematical problems in university are different problems in high school or model school, so they will take more time to gain an understanding of.
One thing that is different in this course is the fact that the quizzes focus on language mathematic problems rather than numerical problems. In addition, there are several symbols that must be learned in order to complete the course.
