YouTube Video Review: Statistics — A Full University Course on Data Science Basics
I have spent the last several days studying a YouTube video on statistics titled, “Statistics — A Full University Course on Data Science Basics”. This seemed to be an introductory course, but I found it to be easy to follow and as a result I was able to take comprehensive notes on the course:-
Statistics is the study of how to collect, organise, analyse and interpret numerical information and data.
A population is a group of people or objects with a common theme. When every member of that group is considered, it is a population.
A sample is a small portion of the population. It can be a representative sample but can also be a biased sample.
An entire population is called a census.
N is the total population, while n is a sample population.
A parameter is a measure that describes the entire population.
A statistic is a measure that describes only a sample of a population.
Descriptive statistics involve methods of organising, picturing and summarising information from samples and populations.
